Hello,

If you are looking at this website, you have probably just been told that you require vitrectomy surgery to repair a retina or retinal detachment or possibly a macular hole. Your Doctor would have given you some information on the surgery itself but right now, all you can think of is "How am I going to get through 2 weeks, with my face down?"

To heal as quickly and successfully as possible after your vitrectomy surgery, it is extremely important to keep in the face down position. The gas bubble that is in your eye after surgery is necessary to apply pressure to the area in need of healing.

It sounds daunting but don't panic, we have been there. We too wondered how we could endure 2 weeks looking down, and searched for equipment that might help make it easier. We finally managed to track down a couple of pieces and the rest we left up to our creativity. (neck pillows, pieces of foam an ironing board, etc.)The equipment really does help. It allows you to relax as the various pieces cradle and support different parts of your body. You don't have a choice with the surgery but you can choose to make the recovery a little easier with the durable medical equipment we can provide. You are able to pick up your equipment from Calgary Vitrectomy Recovery Equipment the day prior to your surgery at no additional cost, to allow time to become familiar with it.
